About KariI am a thirty-something Southern gal whose absolutely favorite thing in life is loving on my boys, including my easygoing, hardworking husband Matt, my social, spunky 3-year old Davis, who rocks his extra chromosome, and my wildly curious and active 1-year old Thomas. All three of them are extremely handsome, fun, and gifted, and I am ultra blessed to call them mine!
I write because I enjoy it and because I have something to say about being a wife and a mother, raising a child with Down Syndrome, and preparing and eating real, natural food...and after all that, sometimes I have time for a little crafting! |
Why I write about Down Syndrome:
Down Syndrome most commonly occurs when an extra 21st chromosome is present in a person's cells. Click here to learn more about Down Syndrome. To read about Davis's diagnosis, heart surgery, and first year of life, please visit my previous blog at happyheartofdavis.blogspot.com.
Having Davis is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Although I find much joy in having him just the way that he is, I handle his special needs on a daily basis, if not hourly or even by the minute or down to each second, and Down Syndrome is therefore a HUGE part of my life. I invite others to peer through our window of hope and love - seeing that although we face many challenges, being different is okay! Anyway, how can one truly appreciate life's blessings without the opportunity to face challenges? We celebrate our life with this little something extra!
What is real food?
I find it sad that so many of us are disconnected from our food! Eating should be a sensual experience that makes you feel good physically, mentally,
and spiritually. I like to know where my food comes from and how it is handled before it gets to me. I don't count calories, don't eat low-fat "products," and avoid fast food as well as ingredients that I don't understand; but I'm not perfect. I try to remain practical and realistic, doing the best I can, when I can, to bring real food to my family's table. Real food is food that you can understand and that makes you feel good inside and out.
I don't pretend to know it all, but I hope to be able to share knowledge and best practices to readers that may need awareness and improvement in this area of their lives, and on the flipside, I hope informed readers may be able to teach me a thing or two about healthy eating! Please check out my pinterest page for lots of easy, nutritious recipes. Everything I cook is easy (or I wouldn't do it!) and gluten free.
Crafting is cool!
I make wreaths - lots of wreaths! Burlap, Fall, Christmas, Patriotic, lettered, simple, fancy, etc... You name it, I make it, or will at least try! I also have other crafting adventures including bowties for little boys, letter wall art, antique windows, party/shower décor, sewing, etc... Check out my store to get an idea of what I can do for you! Right now I am taking custom orders only, but soon you will be able to order directly from the site. See instructions on store page.
